This page is for non-UCLA visitors. UCLA students who are taking my course please log on to MyUCLA and visit the UCLA site, which is the one I'm using for teaching.
Most of the material on this site is in Adobe PDF format. To
read PDF files, you have to have the
free Adobe
PDF reader on your computer.
I'm writing a textbook, entitled Introductory Linguistics, which will be the text for this course the next time I teach it. It is copyrighted, but anyone is free to read it.
If you're a linguistics teacher and would like to use it as a textbook, you are most welcome. However, please do send me an email (address above) if you do this. Comments and error corrections are solicited.
This is the 2010 version of this text. UCLA students please download current chapters at the MyUCLA website.
