LAURA KALIN
UCLA
I am a fourth year graduate student in the UCLA linguistics department. My research interests are in syntax and anything syntax-related. I study three languages in particular: Malagasy, an Austronesian language spoken in Madagascar, Hixkaryana, a Carib language spoken in Brazil, and Senaya, a Neo-Aramaic language originally spoken in north-western Iran. This winter, I am beginning my dissertation research, which involves last resort phenomena in Neo-Aramaic (Senaya and Zakho in particular) and their theoretical and crosslinguistic implications. When I’m not doing linguistics, I’m running, reading, baking, or spending time with friends and family.
