Workshop on International Prosodic Alphabet (IPrA) at ICPhS 2015

Workshop on Developing an International Prosodic Alphabet (IPrA) within the AM framework, a satellite meeting of ICPhS 2015

The aim of this workshop is to develop an international set of symbols for the transcription of intonational contours and prosodic structure in the Autosegmental-metrical framework of intonational phonology. The symbols, called IPrA (International Prosodic Alphabet), are meant to be used to transcribe the categorical nature of the prosodic system of a language/dialect before distinctiveness of a prosodic feature is known to the researcher.

We will discuss IPrA symbols in three categories: pitch accents, phrasal/boundary tones, and non-f0 features. If you are interested in participating in the discussion group for symbols related to pitch accents, please contact Pilar Prieto (pilar.prieto@upf.edu). For the symbols related to phrasal/boundary tones, please contact Sun-Ah Jun (jun@humnet.ucla.edu), and for the symbols related to non-f0 features, please contact José Hualde (jihualde@illinois.edu). You are more than welcome to participate in more than one discussion group, or participate in general discussions.
