Historical Linguistics Requirement
Graduate Program
Department of Linguistics
UCLA
Linguistics graduate students must have the equivalent of a real undergraduate
course in historical linguistics (not in the history of a language or language
family). If you haven't had one, you can take the one offered in UCLA's
Linguistics Department. There are several options:
-
Linguistics 202 - our graduate course in historical linguistics
-
Linguistics 110 - see class schedule for when offered).
-
In quarters when the Ling. 110 instructor is willing, you may also choose
to take an independent study that will give you the content of Ling. 110
more efficiently (the first year adviser will try to keep you posted if such
an option arises).
-
You may also choose to take a historical linguistics course at the LSA Summer
Institute.
