The Phonetics Lab has supplies for static palatography, and a Kay Palatometer
Model 6300 for Electropalatography. This site has extensive information
about both techniques.
The lab owns the Carstens system (AG100) for electromagnetic articulography
(EMA), along with software for analyzing EMA data. This site has extensive
information about using this system.
X16 data acquisition:
The lab has facilities for acquiring aerodynamic data with PCquirerX software
and X16 hardware by Scicon Research &
Development. This is often set up and ready to use in the General
Lab. We also have Rothenberg masks (split and all-together) and a collection
of weather-stripping for fitting them to a talker's face, but they have not
been used with the Acquirer hardware.
The lab owns the Glottal Enterprises
electroglottograph, used with the same setup as for aerodynamic data
acquisition (can be used simultaneously)..
Modeling Software
Aerodynamic Modeling:
A version of the old Westbury & Keating aerodynamic model (VTM) could
be resurrected on one of the Macs, and Pat has some handouts on it from a
proseminar. To some extent we tried to replace it, functionally speaking,
with the Sensimetrics HLSyn program; but HLSyn does not allow the study of
subglottal pressure.
For information available on the web about modeling resources elsewhere,
see Ying Lin's list. However, this list
is no longer maintained and could be out of date.
Physiology resources
The lab's holdings of physiological recordings are described here.
