Commencement Information for Linguistics Graduates 2009

UCLA’s Commencement website (http://www.commencement.ucla.edu/index.cfm) is the official reference webpage for all things about commencement -- information about everything from cap and gown ordering to parking. It even has a handy FAQ (http://www.commencement.ucla.edu/faq.cfm).

There are many commencement events Linguistics graduates might take part in, including the main Letters & Science Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 12, at 5pm in Pauley Pavilion (more information: http://www.college.ucla.edu/commencement/).

The information below, however, intends to answer questions about events specific to Linguistics graduates, namely the Humanities I Commencement Ceremony and the Linguistics Department Commencement Reception.

Humanities I Commencement Ceremony

Royce Hall Auditorium, 1 pm

At this ceremony, Linguistics graduates -- and graduates from other select departments in the Humanities Division -- will walk across the Royce Hall Auditorium stage to be individually recognized.

RSVP:

via MyUCLA (starting April 28, through May 13)

TICKETS:

Students may purchase up to 6 guest tickets. (Graduates do not need a ticket for themselves, but they must RSVP that they will attend the event.) The first 3 tickets will be free; additional tickets (up to 3 more) will be $10 per ticket.  Students may also request 2 more “waitlist” tickets ($10 each); these will only be granted if space allows. (The decision to disburse “waitlist” tickets is made by the UCLA Events Office, and typically is not decided until a day or two before the event.) Students will be billed for their ticket requests through BAR; tickets will be available for pick up in June at the Central Ticket Office.

WHEN TO ARRIVE:

Seats in Royce Hall Auditorium are first-come, first-served, so guests should arrive early. Graduating students should not reserve a seat for themselves in the auditorium; instead, they should check in to the Humanities I registration area -- located in the west lobby of Royce Hall -- NO LATER than 12:15pm. Students who arrive after the ceremony starts will NOT be allowed to participate, so please arrive early!

The ceremony is expected to take approximately an hour and a half.
